New Puppet Build ~ Gustavo

In all, I was very satisfied with this build. I think the character is adorable. He reminds me of a relative of The Muppet's Scooter which I love since Scooter was one of my favorites.

I'm always looking to improve my puppet building skills so, any advice is welcome. I machine sewed most of the pattern but, followed instructions to whip stitch the mouth which left very visible stitching. Maybe I should have machine sewed [?] maybe I need better skills [?]

Gustavo was made from the Project Puppet simple series melonhead pattern.

Hey David,

It's Christina from the LJ blog On the Puppet Path :) I've found that when I use a semi-fluffy fleece and whipstitch with matching thread, it's not as noticable. But I agree, there has got to be a better stitch for the mouth, though when I machine sewed one, it didn't work as well as I hoped.

Question - how do you attach the fleece/felt as an eyelid? Do you sew or glue? Your result looks really nice and crisp. What a great puppet with so much personality!

Thanks Christina! The eyelid was all glued. Liner effect from craft [sheet] foam and the blue was just more fleece... all on a ping pong ball half. I've been gluing my mouthplates in now and like it a lot more.
